An integral part of construction work is the ability to lift and rig materials. While humans are limited in terms of capacity to lift, we have achieved this using technologies like cranes, lifts etc. However, this is not without risk as falling objects and drop loads which are also one of the major causes for workplace fatalities and damages, contributing to more than a third of workplace fatalities every year.
After successfully completing this portion of the course, participants will understand:
- The legislative requirements (Government Regulations, OSH Standards and Manufacturers’ Guidelines and Principles);
- The duties and responsibilities of workplace stakeholders;
- Pre-shift inspections and maintenance;
- Capacity ratings and load weight calculations; Rigging equipment selection and rigging procedures;
- Pedestrian safety and the proper use of hand signals.
- By means of group discussion, case studies and instructions, participants will gain the ability to apply what they learn in this course.
